The incident took place around 8:20 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 18, when Trumbull Police received several 911 calls reporting a man sitting on the fence on the overpass, said Trumbull Police Lt Brian Weir

As officers arrived, bystanders were seen speaking with the man as he sat on the fence that spans over the highway at the Route 25 overpass, Weir said.

Shortly after police arrived on the scene, the man jumped off the overpass onto the roadway of Route 25 southbound, he said.

Officers immediately responded to render medical aid and found the victim conscious and alert, but suffering serious injuries from the fall, Weir said.

Trumbull EMS responded and transported the man to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment, where he remains in critical condition, police said.

The man’s identity is being withheld pending family notification, but preliminary information indicates that he is not a Trumbull resident.

A vehicle was located on Daniels Farm Road near the bridge that is suspected to belong to the victim, Weir said.

Trumbull Police are currently investigating this incident as a suicide attempt.

They were assisted by the Connecticut State Police.
